As far as The Big 4 go, they're underrated as fuck.

I'd put 'em as second best personally, after Metallica, and before Megadeth.

It's hard for me to rank them, because they all changed so much over the years...though Slayer is definitely last any way you slice it. Anthrax was easily the best of them all during the '80s if you ask me, though.

I disagree, but it's all opinions. They were all pretty amazing, even Slayer was pretty good at first.

They're overrated as a grouping, but Anthrax doesn't nearly get the individual recognition that the other three do.Perry Styles wrote:the "big 4" are all slightly overrated.

Solos
Lindsey Buckingham: "Frozen Love"
David Gilmour: "High Hopes" (best solo ever bar none), "Comfortably Numb"
Tony Iommi: "Kill In The Spirit World"
John Sykes: "Cold Sweat", "Thunder and Lightning"
Gary Moore: "Waiting For An Alibi"
Michael Schenker: "Rock Bottom", "Into The Arena"
David Huff(?): "The Last Note of Freedom"
Syu: "Alsatia"
I've tried playing High Hopes, and figured you need a pedal steel guitar to pull it off. Or do you mean the classic guitar solo, because that's quite boring.

Riffs
Alice in Chains, Put You Down
Deftones, Be Quiet And Drive
Fiction Plane, Death Machine (band's fronted by Sting's son, might notewatch him when I can find some more material. Anyway their guitar player is badass.)
Jane's Addiction, Just Because
Joe Satriani, The Extremist (I could make a whole list about Satch, but this one's my favorite)
Limp Bizkit, Nookie
Papa Roach, Between Angels And Insects
Pendulum, The Tempest
Rage Against the Machine, Wake up (This is the song that made me want to play guitar.)
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Give It Away
Steve Vai, Die To Live
U2, Where The Streets Have No Name (Goosebumps every time!)
Yes, Starship Troopers
I'm also gonna throw We Will Rock You in there, but in a category of it's own since it kinda falls between the two in my mind. Definitely one of my favorite pieces of guitar work.
Solos:
Jerry Cantrel, Nutshell
Fiction Plane, Fake Light From The Sun
Muse, Invincible
Radiohead, Paranoid Android
Rage Against The Machine, Settle For Nothing (all the solos on their first album were great IMO)
Red Hot Chili Peppers, I Could Have Lied
Smashing Pumpkins, Rhinoceros . . . and STARLA! :afraid: Corgan could really rip it up on the guitar early in his career.
Steve Vai, For The Love Of God (I don't usually go for shredding but this is just amazing.)
The Edge, One, Until The End Of The World, Bullet The Blue Sky, etc.

Some of my favorite riffs (there are a million of them but here's a few I thought of):
The main theme of Stone The Crow by Down
The main theme of Head Down by Soundgarden
The first riff in Jambi by Tool
The chorus riff of Icky Thump by White Stripes
The breakdown in Surprise! You're Dead by Faith No More
And some of my favorite solos:
Like Suicide by Soundgarden
Animal by Pearl Jam
Stripsearch by Faith No More
