Re: David Phelps
Well, I hope I did everything right with the thread-making.
The question marks mean that as far as I've "learned" your classification system here, he must be a low tenor, because he has quite quite mellow deep sound in his voice, even though he is a real beast at the upper register. I'm sure that any expert would describe him as a "tenor", but he is defenitely not in the same fach as most "tenor" singers on this forum.
I don't really know how to describe him as a singer. He is one of those few who are not only going to hit great notes, but has a real passion for what they sing about. Whatever your opinion is about his style, he is one of the greatest singers of this era.

A2 at the very beggining
The guy has very cool lows, he hits some of the low notes even better than some baritones would. Still great-great singer

Hi guyz, I don't know who corrected his voice type to "Tenor", but according to this forum's classifying system, he is def. not one. If he is a Tenor, than so is Freddie, R.J. Dio, Steven Tyler, etc...and Adam Lambert, Klaus Meine and Sting are high tenors.
and my reply to the previous comment : he hit D5s there

He's a standard tenor, he has a tenor brightness to his voice. His voice is definitely higher then dio's or Freddie

Its probably because he studies classical singing since he was around 17. People who's been classified as ST-s has no mellow sound in their voices, especially in their lows.
He has full, rich sounding low notes. Listen to Adam Lambert hitting a B4 and than Phelps doing the same, you'll recognise the difference

Re: David Phelps
He sounds like a standard tenor to me, his b4's a sound like standard tenors. Adam Lambert has had alot of voice training too, so don't forget that. Their both talented/well trained standard tenors. The fact he hit a single e2 doesn't change the fact his voice has a standard tenor brightness to it.

Re: David Phelps
Yes, Lambert had a lot of vocal training too, and I would
defenately categorize him higher than Phelps. His timbre is
simply a lot brighter, that occours in his speaking voice as well.
It's not only the E2 that makes me say that he is a lower voice
type, but the A2, B2, C3, that's been attested in a lot of live performances are speaking for themselves. But just look at the others who had been categorized az STs, their timbre is a lot brighter, and their lows are mostly very forced below C-D3. (and mostly only catched during interviews.)

Could you link me to his E2?
I could probably believe him as a low tenor, his highs are quite too weighty and powerful for a regular tenor.

E2 ---> 0:29 but you can find this in any version of his of this song.
(Easy and recognisable, you can actually CATH it while listening to it, unlike most of the lows that are appearing in other tenor guys description. (A1s, F1s, D2s, etc...)
